Guide to Applying Skateboard Griptape
Most skaters prefer to apply their own skateboard griptape. Attempting this for the first time can be challenging and demands a bit of patience. This guide will demonstrate how to apply griptape to a skateboard, broken down into three straightforward steps.
THE 3 STEPS TO APPLY SKATEBOARD GRIPTAPE
Tools required: A knife and a skate tool (or a small metal tool)
1. Begin by peeling off the backing paper from the skateboard griptape and position the adhesive side down on the deck's surface. Firmly press the griptape from the centre towards the edges. Utilise the backing paper to smooth out any air bubbles.
2. Lightly score around the deck's edges with a tool to mark where to trim the griptape. Gently lift up any griptape extending over the deck's edges and cut it away at roughly a 45-degree angle along your guide marks.
3. For a neater finish, sand the edges of the board using the griptape scraps.
Now that you know how it's done, select your favourite Skateboard Griptape and have a try. Afterwards, take a look at How to Apply Skateboard Trucks.
