Purchasing Elbow Protection
This guide is designed to assist you in selecting the appropriate elbow protection.
Hockey elbow pads are crafted to shield you from bruises and fractures when falling or when struck by a stick.
The elbow pads offer protection not only to your elbow but also to your upper arm and part of your forearm.
Determining the Correct Size for Hockey Elbow Pads
To determine your size, wear shoulder protection along with gloves. Measure the distance between the bottom of the shoulder pad and the edge of the glove. The length of the elbow pad is crucial; too long, and it will interfere with the glove; too short, and there will be a visible gap between the elbow pad and the glove.
The sizing of elbow protection can vary among different brands. This table will assist you in selecting the right size based on your arm measurement and your height.
Model | Measurement | Height (approx.) |
Child | 8" | < 4' |
Junior Small | 10" | 4' - 4' 6" |
Junior Medium | 11" | 4' 6" - 4' 10" |
Junior Large | 12" | 4' 10"- 5' 4" |
Senior XSmall | 12" | 4' 10"- 5' 7" |
Senior Small | 13" | 5' 5" - 6' |
Senior Medium | 14" | 5' 9" - 6' 4" |
Senior Large | 15" | > 6' |
Most elbow pads are adjustable thanks to the Velcro straps, enabling them to be tailored easily to fit the unique size of an arm.
Evaluating the Quality of Elbow Pads
High-quality elbow pads should enable free movement while effectively shielding your arm in any position. It's crucial that the padding, ideally made of gel, provides optimal protection.
