Purchasing Axles for Scooters
The dimensions and shape of scooter axles differ based on the make and model. An axle that isn't correctly adjusted may cause noise and potential malfunction of the scooter.
Length
The length of an axle or bolt is taken in mm, excluding the head (w/o head).
This method provides the precise measurement.
How to Determine the Appropriate Axle Length?
- For decks/forks using a type A axle, it should NOT go beyond the deck/fork casing or wall.
- For decks/forks utilising a type B axle, the axle must project 10 mm outside the casing/wall of the deck/fork. (This is needed to secure the lock nut).
Fitting Pegs
- When attaching pegs, ensure at least 10 mm exceeds beyond plus the peg's thickness. (A longer type B axle is generally preferred).
- Substitution between type A & B is feasible.
Head Type
The illustration below displays various head types. Ensure that you have the respective tool in the right size for securing the axle head.
Diameter
The usual diameter for most scooters is 8 mm, which accommodates directly with 8 mm bearings and spacers.
Axles also exist in diameters of 6 mm & 10 mm and beyond. Most off-road scooters feature 10 mm axles, in which case special bearings are necessary.
Thread Explained
Axle thread density will always correspond if you purchase a complete set inclusive of head & screw/nut.
