Rollerski Poles
Select Your Rollerski Poles
The choice of rollerski poles significantly impacts your roller skiing enjoyment. These poles not only aid in propulsion but also serve as critical balance tools to maintain your control. When selecting rollerski poles, focus on the material and length, ensuring they match your skiing style and height.
Determining the Length of Rollerski Poles
Your style of rollerskiing—classic or skating—will dictate the appropriate pole length. For classic rollerskiing, poles should ideally be approximately 30 cm shorter than your overall height, which complements the arm movements you use. Skating poles, however, need to be around 20 cm shorter than your full height and should be slightly longer than those for classic skiing to accommodate the additional space required for side-to-side movements.
Materials Used in Rollerski Poles
Rollerski poles are typically crafted from carbon, fibreglass, or a blend of both. Each material comes with its own set of pros and cons. Poles made entirely from carbon are lightweight, rigid, and provide excellent power transfer from arm to pole tip, making them ideal for skilled rollerskiers and racers. Conversely, poles with a 50% carbon and 50% fibreglass composition offer greater flexibility and durability, as they are less prone to snapping compared to all-carbon poles. This makes them a cost-effective and popular option for those skiing recreationally.
Additional features to consider are pole straps, handles made generally from cork, and replaceable ski pole tips available in various sizes. For further rollerski pole equipment, take a look at our Accessories for Roller Ski Poles.
