Street Hockey Sticks
Which Stick Should I Choose for Street Hockey?
The primary factor to consider when selecting a street hockey stick is the material. Also referred to as roller hockey sticks or inline hockey sticks, these are crafted from either wood or composite materials.
Generally, those playing street hockey favour a stick with a wooden shaft. These tend to be more affordable than composite sticks and are better suited for the sport due to their durability and weight. In contrast, street hockey sticks made from composite material are lighter and offer easier handling.
How Do I Determine the Right Size for a Street Hockey Stick?
For inline and roller hockey, sticks are measured by the shaft only, excluding the blade. Adult hockey sticks usually range from 140 to 158 cm (4'8"-5'3") in length, whereas junior hockey sticks are narrower and span 116 to 138 cm (3'10"- 4'7").
To select the correct stick size, stand it vertically in front of you with the blade toe resting on the ground and the shaft reaching towards your chin. If the street hockey stick does not extend beyond your chin while you are wearing skates, it is the appropriate size.
Is it Possible to Use an Ice Hockey Stick for Street Hockey?
An ice hockey stick can indeed be used for roller and inline hockey. It is advisable to opt for an ABS blade for street hockey, as they are more robust and can withstand the demands of asphalt.
