Kitesurf Bars
Understanding a Kite Bar
When you are out kitesurfing, the kite bar acts much like a steering wheel. It assists in transferring the kite's force to the rider, enabling the rider to speed up, slow down, jump, and make turns. In discussions about a kite control bar, it is generally assumed we're discussing the complete kitesurfing bar and lines.
Kitesurf bars generally come in two varieties: 4-line and 5-line. The 4-line bar is a simpler, more frequently used system with a lower risk of lines becoming tangled. The 5-line system offers more advanced control and is easier to relaunch during gentle winds.
A common inquiry is about the universality of kite bars. While not always true, many cases allow for mixing kite and bar brands; this is more frequent with a 4-line bar.
Selecting the Appropriate Size Kite Bar
A properly sized bar is crucial for an enjoyable kite experience. Ensuring the correct width is important—the larger your kite, the larger your bar needs to be. If the bar is too small, response will be slower, making control more difficult. The typical bar width is approximately 52 cm.
Another key dimension is the length of the kitesurf lines, which averages around 20 - 24 metres. Shorter lines result in the kite hanging lower, reacting more quickly and with greater intensity. Longer lines let you lift the kite higher but result in a slower response.
