BMX Brake Components, BMX Brake Pads & BMX Brake Cables
What Should I Know About BMX Brakes?
A growing number of freestyle riders are utilising brakes to gain enhanced control over their rides. Brakes not only enhance safety but also assist in mastering fresh tricks. To ensure your BMX brake components remain in optimal condition, regular maintenance and timely replacements are crucial.
BMX Brake Pads
Often known as brake shoes or brake blocks, BMX brake pads are essential for halting your wheels. They constitute a vital component of your braking system, providing the necessary friction to decelerate or stop your wheels.
All brake pads inevitably wear out and require replacement. Most pads are crafted to be compatible with every type of rim brake and feature simple one-piece constructions.
While most brake pads are designed for screws, it’s important to verify whether threaded or non-threaded pads are necessary before purchasing.
BMX Brake Cables
Similar to pads, BMX brake cables deteriorate over time and must be replaced. As most BMX bikes are equipped with a single rear U-brake, they typically include a standard 1.5mm inner wire and a full-length outer. BMX brake cables can be linear or helical. Linear cables are straight wires and are a favourite among BMX riders, whereas helical cables consist of tightly wound spiral wires.
If a Gyro brake system is in use, two cables are required - the upper and lower. Gyro cables are straightforward to install and can be adjusted to various lengths.
