Skateboard Hardware
What is Skateboard Hardware?
Skateboard hardware consists of the bolts and nuts required to secure your trucks to the skateboard deck. While it might be easy to overlook, this hardware is an essential component of your setup. Regular maintenance of skate hardware is necessary. For instance, ensure that the nuts and bolts are tightly secured. They have a tendency to loosen over time, leading your board to wobble from side to side and making you lose your balance.
Which Size of Skateboard Bolts Should I Choose?
Choosing the correct size for skateboard hardware is crucial. The bolts must extend through both the deck and the truck baseplate, protruding sufficiently to allow the locknut to attach to the bolt. If the hardware is excessively long, it can be hard to tighten and may create obstacles during grinds. Conversely, hardware that is too short can detach quickly. The typical length for skateboard bolts ranges from ⅞ of an inch to 1 inch for regular skate setups. However, if riser pads over ⅛ of an inch are in use, longer hardware might be required.
Can Skateboard Hardware Be Used Universally?
Various brands produce skateboard nuts and bolts, which, in most cases, are compatible with any skateboard. Most hardware comes in either the Phillips head or Allen head style. Nonetheless, this won’t affect your performance, and the choice of type is a matter of personal preference.
Moreover, ensure the use of nuts and bolts specifically designed to withstand the demands of skateboarding. Ordinary hardware often lacks the necessary strength to endure the stress encountered when skating.
