Speed Skate Wheels
Understanding Speed Skate Wheels
Speed, or race skate wheels, are a specific kind of wheel designed for inline skaters who participate in marathons, races, or enjoy travelling as swiftly as possible on the road.
Inline speed skate wheels are typically larger and harder compared to recreational skate wheels. With a pointed profile to minimise friction on the road, this type of wheel delivers the greatest speed possible.
Selecting the Appropriate Speed Skate Wheels
Your initial choice is to determine your goals with a new set of speed wheels. These wheels are available in four sizes: 90mm, 100mm, 110mm, and 125mm. A larger diameter allows for faster skating.
90mm inline skate wheels are suitable for beginners and children because they offer enhanced stability and manoeuvrability. Wheels measuring 100mm and 110mm deliver higher speeds and are ideal for both casual speed enthusiasts and competitors. Finally, 125mm inline skate wheels are used by marathon skaters to achieve top speeds and cover extensive distances rapidly.
Comparing Speed Wheels and Roller Blade Wheels
As previously highlighted, speed skate wheels are larger and harder than roller blade wheels. Roller blade wheels range from 70mm to 90mm in size and are softer to enhance grip on various outdoor surfaces. Conversely, speed wheels are harder than their "road" equivalents and are meant for use on indoor floors, skating rinks, and smooth urban surfaces.
