BMX Pedals
Understanding BMX Pedals
BMX pedals are an essential component of your BMX setup. There are several factors to take into account when selecting the ideal pedals, including the material, size, and pins.
A primary decision is choosing the material for your BMX bike pedals. BMX pedals are available in various materials, but they are generally crafted from metal or plastic. Plastic pedals are lighter, more cost-effective, and offer a range of colourful designs for personalising your setup. BMX metal pedals boast excellent grip, are more resilient, but tend to be heavier.
Sizes of BMX Pedals
BMX pedals typically come in two sizes: the 9/16 inch, prevalent on most modern BMX bikes, and the 1/2 inch, more common on children's BMX and older models. These measurements refer to the pedal axle diameter. The appropriate pedal size will depend on the type of crankset you have. A 9/16 inch is suited for 3-piece cranks, while a 1/2 inch is designed for 1-piece cranks.
Identifying the Ideal BMX Pedals
The optimal BMX pedals are those that offer outstanding grip and enhance your performance. Ensuring the pedals have the necessary grip is crucial to prevent slipping off and causing injuries to your shins. Pedals that are worn will provide less grip, so inspect them frequently to keep your shins protected.
BMX pins play a vital role in the grip of your pedals. Pins augment the grip of your pedal, and many pedals are equipped with replaceable pins that prolong the pedal's lifespan. The length of the pins can vary: longer pins offer more grip but increase the likelihood of damaging your shoes and shins.
