The Function of Skateboard Bushings

Located in your truck, skateboard bushings enable your board to turn smoothly. They contribute significantly to the stability and quality of your skateboarding experience. Each truck includes two bushings: a top bushing facing the street and a bottom bushing facing the board. Skate bushings, like your wheels, are crafted from polyurethane.

Although your skateboard trucks will come equipped with bushings, they wear out over time, and many skaters prefer to refresh their setup with new ones. As skateboard bushings are universally compatible, there is no need for concerns about fitting them into your current configuration.

Which Skateboard Bushings Should I Choose?

Skateboard truck bushings come in two types: cone bushings and barrel bushings. Cone bushings offer greater manoeuvrability and flexibility, whereas barrel bushings provide stability at higher speeds.

Bushings are rated on a durometer scale similar to that of wheels; the higher the rating, the harder the bushing. You should select bushings based on your weight as well as the style of riding you intend to pursue. For example, harder bushings result in less responsive trucks when turning, while softer bushings offer greater responsiveness and ease when turning.
