Longboards Risers & Longboard Shock Pads
The Purpose of Longboard Risers
Longboard riser pads, commonly known as risers, are small pieces of plastic that are placed between your longboard deck and truck. This increases the height of the longboard, assisting in the prevention of wheelbite.
Riser pads come in two forms: a flat, rectangular riser or an angled, wedge riser. Flat risers are the typical style and are offered in various thicknesses. Angled risers not only increase your deck height but also modify the angle of the kingpin and pivot point. Using these can provide more "turn" at the front of the board.
Are Shock Pads Necessary on a Longboard?
While longboard shock pads also elevate the deck height, they have the added purpose of reducing vibrations and promoting a smooth ride. This extra layer of protection is highly beneficial if you are riding on uneven surfaces and aim to safeguard your deck.
Keep in mind that if you opt to use riser or shock pads, you must ensure your bolts are sufficiently long to accommodate the new setup. You can verify this in our Bolts & Riser Pads Guide. Should you require new hardware, visit our Nuts & Bolts for Longboards page.
