Backcountry Cross Country Ski Boots
Warmth and Comfort: The Hallmarks of Backcountry Cross Country Ski Boots
Designed for diverse terrains and snow conditions beyond groomed tracks, backcountry cross country ski boots resemble hiking boots. As you'll spend days traversing and skiing in these boots, comfort, stability, and warmth are essential attributes.
Though backcountry, or BC ski boots, may not excel in power transfer, they offer the reliability and durability needed for extended snow hikes. Typically crafted from leather, these boots often have Thinsulate insulation for added warmth. Moreover, BC ski boots feature high cuffs that help prevent snow from entering the boot and offer ankle support.
Ensure Compatibility: Backcountry Cross Country Boots Suit Only Specific Bindings
When selecting backcountry cross country boots, ensure they match your BC bindings. There are two principal binding systems in the backcountry: NNN BC and the 75 mm (3-pin) toe system. These systems are compatible exclusively with backcountry boots. Browse appropriate bindings in our Cross Country Backcountry Binding collection.
Backcountry ski boots are equipped with two different sole types to fit the various binding systems. The more prevalent sole style hooks into the binding via a metal rod, akin to classic boots, and works with NNN BC binding systems. Those suitable for the 75 mm toe system possess a nib at the toe, reminiscent of telemark boots. Due to their wider and thicker metal bar at the toe, backcountry boots are incompatible with standard cross country bindings.
