Why Use a Surfboard Bag?
Surfboard bags are essential to prevent any damages that can happen to your boards when they're not in the water. Common mishaps such as dents on the tail and surface, delamination, and dewaxation often occur to boards without proper cover. Furthermore, a quality surf bag or SUP bag offers protection against environmental elements - primarily the sun’s UV rays and heat, which can gradually cause the colour of your board to fade.
What Are the Varieties of Surfboard Bags?
Surfboard bags come in three categories - socks, day board bags, and travel bags. Surfboard socks are made from soft, lightweight woven fabric and are less than two millimetres thick. Day board bags, the most popular type, are lightweight, padded, and ideal for shielding your surfboard. Surfboard travel bags boast ten millimetres of padding, making them ideal for long-distance trips.
How to Choose the Right Surfboard Bag Size?
Select a bag that comfortably accommodates and protects your board. If it’s too small and tight, your board could incur dents. Conversely, a bag that’s overly large will feel excessively loose, making boards awkward to transport. Before selecting a surfboard bag, check your board’s length, width, and thickness. The length will dictate the size of your bag. It's advisable to choose a bag that matches the board's size or is two inches larger.
Width and thickness influence the style of bag needed. Each board varies based on its water sports discipline, and if the correct bag style for your board is unclear, dimensions can be compared to guide your choice.
