Cross Country Ski Tools & Ski Maintenance Equipment
Essential Cross Country Ski Tools for Ski Care
Tools for cross country skiing are essential if you wish to maintain your cross country skis in optimal condition and maximise their performance. The bases of skis may degrade if not treated correctly. Temperature variations, exposure to moisture in diverse snow conditions, and dirt can all impact the grip and glide zones of skis.
Maintenance of cross country skis involves waxing, scraping, and brushing. A cross country skin cleaner is employed to clear dirt from the skins on classic cross country skis. Don’t miss our Kick Wax and Glide Wax if you haven’t explored our cross country wax selection yet.
What is the Technique for Brushing Cross Country Skis?
Once you’ve applied wax to your cross country skis and have removed most of it with a ski scraper, it's time to utilise your brushes. Cross country ski brushes aid in eliminating wax that a scraper can’t, while also structuring the base to further enhance the skiing performance.
With long strokes, brush from the tip to the tail of the ski, applying medium pressure. As you brush, you should observe small wax particles gathering at the end of your stroke. Continue this action until no wax dust is visible. A nylon ski brush is preferable for extremely cold conditions, while a brass ski brush is more suitable for preparing your skis for milder weather. Regardless of the weather, finishing the brushing process with a horsehair ski brush is beneficial.
If your waxed classic skis struggle in wet and warm snow and fail to grip, consider using Klister Wax. This provides additional grip in the kick zone when the snow is excessively slippery.
